I offer private and group lessons. Currently I work with students in high school and college, as well as adults looking to improve their skills. Whatever your reason for learning, speaking a second language is a gift and a superpower—it's also just plain fun!
01
I received my bachelor's degree in Spanish from the University of Georgia in 2009, and have been teaching Spanish privately since 2017.
02
I earned a master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Maryland. I have worked for many years as a therapist with adults in various hospital settings.
03
I have spent two summers living with host families in Spain and Peru. No English allowed!
04
I love to see the world, and I have been lucky enough to travel to 20 countries. Next year…maybe Japan?
Personalized lessons
Since lessons are private, they will be tailored to your goals. Perhaps you require communication skills specific to your profession, or you are preparing for a trip to a Spanish-speaking country, or you have always wanted to learn. Whatever your reason, your lessons will be made just for you.
Coursework support
In your private lessons, we can review topics covered in school, following along with your course curriculum as needed. Frequently this includes clarification of concepts covered by your teacher, as well as help with homework. Assistance is available to students 9th–12th grade, and to those taking college courses.
Small groups
Lessons are available for small groups of 2-4 people. Taking lessons with a friend means that you have a partner for practice between sessions. Many have also gathered motivation and joy from the shared experience.
Shayna's focused, sharp and kind tutoring helped our son feel confident with Spanish and, therefore, enjoy it and improve grades—and that is a huge accomplishment!

As psychotherapists, my wife and I are acutely aware of the need to challenge the mind with new learning and experiences, and for quite some time, I had wanted to learn Spanish. My wife and I started on this adventure with Shayna more than two years ago, and we are still at it! We have met on a weekly basis and have seen our skill progress regularly—with her patience and guidance. In fact, we have had two trips to Mexico and one to Cuba since we started learning Spanish. We have gone from virtually inarticulate in the first trip to being able to have rudimentary conversations with people on the most recent trip and look forward to even more fluency. ¡Qué bueno!

As someone who took a decent amount of Spanish in high school and college, I’d been frustrated on recent trips to Spain with my limited Spanish skills. I decided to get a Spanish tutor, and I found Shayna. She is exactly what I needed—someone to guide me back into Spanish without letting me veer off into frustration land. After helping me establish a sturdy grammatical foundation, we’re now focusing on conversation skills. Shayna paces her conversation based on my level of comprehension, and I’m glad for that; I need “wins” in my lessons! I highly recommend her. ¡Llámala ya!

Shayna has created a curriculum just for me based on my skills and proficiency. She always comes ready with a plan of action and uses various methods to keep the learning process engaging. She has greatly helped to build my confidence with Spanish conversation and written comprehension. Additionally, she is patient and kind.
